Where in the NE are you? I get it from a parts store on the coast that feeds lots of fishing boats. Be prepared....it's much more expensive than the 30 wt.
Yes, $104. for a 5 gal pail.I had my local parts store order it 2 day deliv.
Here in Canada Rotela straight grade or Petro Canada is around $100 dollars a pail. At walmart or Canadian Tire you can but spin off type straight grade oil 30 wt 40 wt for $55 a pail and it meets the grade rating for detroit . My freind ran it for years in his 353 detroit after a rebuild and he said the motor is still good and he dosent see the need to spend extra $50 to have brand name. Just figured I would pass it on to you 8)
Thanks all,Found mobil delvac 1240 with the detroit specs and .08 ash content for $94.00 a pail. It is near my girls place in Matunuk, RI at a boat shop who has been working on detroits in the marine industry for years. Logman81 is close to that one. The shop guys down there say running the multi grade is a no no as the polymers coke the cylinders up as well as stick the rings in a two stroke diesel application. I could not get any stores around here to get me the 40 wt as they had to order lg amounts. Thanks for the response. Now for the real question, Is this really the case with these Detroit two strkes concerning oil?David-l
And about the pic you put up?Reminds me of playing in the haybarn, but also reminds me of hand stacking hay bales in the haybarn. Just that I'd be wearin long pants if stacking. Or of those times when some hay bales were getting hot, and we had to dig into the stack to salt them down before they started smoking. And maybe it has to do with Chevro deleo too. ;)
Yep, they're telling you the truth. We run a 6-71 on our rock crusher and run straight weight. We used to run multi vis in some of our loaders when I worked in the woods, and the driptroits didn't like it. By the end of summer, they were all having problems. When we went back to straight weight, Delo 100, all the problems ended fairly soon.
I have been running Delo 400 15/40 in a water truck set up with a 453 detroit (screaming Jimmy) without any problems, just wondering if the detroit owners are not recommending this type/grade of oil in my application. Chevron has a straight 30 wt version of Delo-400 ...... should I be using this instead or am I ok, The 453 was installed in that old 6X6 GI water truck new in 1978 and never had a major problem so far though it has always had minor oil leaks around gaskets and crankcase vents.
Didn't think the multi grade was a big deal till I started looking on the internet and talking to some of the detroit owners. straight oil for two stroke detroits is reccomended ( 40wt summer-30wt winter ) with a low ash content. as I said the boat fishing people have this as there are still screamers in the older fishing boats.David
Hey davi-l glad you found oil, funny you found it the next town over from me. I get most of my DT parts from the local boat mechanics, some are still running these engines in boats. I need to change the oil in my skidder as soon as I get it back to the shop.
