John, I am afraid that I cannot help you with this one but have you considered any other (cheaper options). My own experience of Datastream was with MP2 and this was NOT a good experience. To be fair I don;t know much about 6.0 or 7i so they mey have improved. Regards, Bryan Weir http://www.pemms.co.uk
John, We work with many systems, one being Datastream. MP2 Enterprise V6 is a later version of the original MP2 system. My understanding is that there are no MP2 to 7i upgrade reference in the asia pacific region but there is a plethora in the U.S. Attached is a document that explains the difference between MP2E and 7i. (it is from direct from Datastream.) There also info on their website (datastream.net) under the MP2 product page. The 7i product is web enabled and highly customisable. Also it has some advanced analytic (data analysis) capability. As to your question 'is it worth the money?' I suggest you talk to the Datastream people in the US and get some names.

Thanks for the input on this. I've spoken with the datastream folks about this and the highly recommend it, of course. I would like some "real world", unbiased, feedback from someone who has experienced both packages. As Brian mentioned, I have not been entirely impressed with the MP2 6.0 and I'm hoping to hear that 7i is an vast improvement over 6.0 Again, Thanks for the response, John C.
We are currently using datastream 7i, but our upgrade path was a little different. We started in 1995 in the good old dos days with Rapier (Europe). The Y2K syndrome forced an upgrade. At that time Rapier was bought by Datastream and they launched MP5. Rapier at that time was a huge system running on Oracle and Datastream fit it in a Windows jacket. The MP2 system was a file based system (running on paradox), while Rapier was a full blown Client-Server RDBMS. In short MP5 was the Client-Server generation of Datastream. Last year we upgraded to Datastream7i, and the big feature was web-enabled , that is what the i stands for. I don't know Datastream 6.0, but if it also a client-server system, I suspect it must not be too difficult. On the other hand, from MP-2 to Datastream7i will be a culture shock if you are accustomed to systems like paradox and access. Regards By the way, someone knows how to attach a pdf to a Purchase Requisition so the supplier can get additional info, without I have to e-mail everything to our Procurement Department. ICT is still busy studying the possibilities...
