As a suggestion, try logmein.com. I have not tried my Vista machine on MP2, but I do know it is not a really great idea to network a home machine into a business. With logmein, you are actually using your office machine just like you are sitting in front of it, there is no meshing of software, and there is greatly reduced risk of any type of cross-contamination of data.
Thanks for the suggestion.. But I never had a problem when working from home with Windows XP. Matter of fact, most all employees of our company log on from home to catch up on work. Wish I had a clerk that could do all my admin work for me.. I'm so damned busy during the day, the only time I have to sit down at the computer is at night when I'm home.. Otherwise, I'd have to put in more than 12 hour days! and being that I'm considered management, there is no overtime..
Welcome to the group of those of us carrying work home. I too do a lot from there- I have a SQL DB for MP2 for 2 different manufacturing facilities in 2 different states. One is running, the other is in the process of converting from access. There again, I can't be in 2 places, so I utilize logmein or real VNC to get around the problems with Vista. Ok, so I am going to say what is a very unpopular thing: I like Vista. I have found that MP2 does not like it as much as I do. So I have to use my work desktop remotely to allow me to have access to my databases. It is a workaround.
Thanks for the reply.. I too like Vista hence the reason for not wanting to go back to XP to log on.. Since my original problem, I have used a laptop with Vista and have no problem.. I can also boot the desktop into Safe Mode with networking and again have no problem.(but the screens are awkward to navigate) But normal mode is when I get the problem.. I'm convinced it is some other program in Vista that prevents it from acting normally..
What version web browser are you using to access 7i with? We use 7i, and for us, it will not work with Firefox or Explorer 7.0. (Vista uses Explorer 7.0) Explorer 6 works fine.
Try this... I came upon the fix while attempting to fix Windows Media Player that didn't work.. After doing this, Datastream worked great! Turn off your User Account Control. However, turning off UAC reduces the security of your computer and may expose you to increased risk from malicious software. We do not recommend leaving UAC disabled. To turn off UAC Click Start, and then click Control Panel. In Control Panel, click User Accounts. In the User Accounts window, click User Accounts. In the User Accounts tasks window, click Turn User Account Control on or off. If UAC is currently configured in Admin Approval Mode, the User Account Control message appears. Click Continue. Clear the Use User Account Control (UAC) to help protect your computer check box, and then click OK. Click Restart Now to apply the change right away, or click Restart Later and close the User Accounts tasks window.
