7.8 or 7.3 what year is it? why such a small truck? air breaks is a big pluss
Cool! Been wondering where you were. Hadn't seen ya around here in a few days.
its a 7.8, i didnt have many choices on a truck, and this one was in decent shape. i could have got a L9000 ford single axle with a dead axle, but it had a 429 gas motorSmvwoody has been hauling for me. it has been really hot here. on my travels looking for a truck i found a rotobec 360 grapple for my loader also, im going to call and check the price tomm.
What is a 7.8? IH didn't offer one that I know of. It should either be a 6.9 or 7.3 V8 or a DT466 six-cylinder. Possibly a DT360 six-cylinder. Ford offered a 7.8 six-cylinder.
im wrong, dave you were right. i just walked out and checked it. it has a 6.9 in it.
i hope its down hill all the way to the mill. make sure you put colant condishener in it. the older 7.3 had a tag on the valve cover gave the hp they were either 160 or 190hp . it is a pre combustion chamber engine with glow plugs. with the glow pluge working as they should it will start at -20 with out them maybe at 70 expect some smoke at start up
im not going to load it heavy, ill put some in it. is it a good motor?
Its a great old engine.. seen many of them make it to half million miles before a rebuild.. Like said they aren't powerhouses but their good old engines. They were known for cavitation issues so definitely use coolant additive.. If the 6.9l gives up on ya.. swap it for the 7.3l IDI.. pretty much the exact same engine but better.. would be a direct bolt in in place of your 6.9l.. uses the same wires to run it
