Thank you for the reply. Ive never purchased one of these before. My serial number is 20z01980. Can yoy dumb it down for me. The photo you shared covers a little different range of numbers?
20Z is the tractor serial number prefix, 1980 is the consecutive build number. A parts book that says "models 20Z267-up (20Z00267 in Cat computer records) means the book covers from 20Z00267 up to the date the book was printed. However, there may be another serial number break where major design changes were introduced after the book was printed - which means a new part book was printed to cover the newer model. So, say for example, there were major design changes at 20Z01000, the new parts book would say "models 20Z01000-up" and that would mean the 20Z00267-up book would only be suitable for use on tractors between 20Z00267 and 20Z01000.Your tractor was built in mid 1988, and tractor number 20Z00267 was built in 1983. It is possible there were major engineering upgrades to the model between 1983 and 1988 - meaning a new parts book was required. However, after checking the eBay link provided by Tyler d4c, the seller says the parts book he is selling was printed in October 1988, so I would have to say it covers your tractor.
There is no later s/n break.I use this site953 TRACK LOADER Caterpillar parts catalog SIS online | AVSpare.comavspare.comIt's a little convoluted to use, but once you get the hang of it, I find myself using it more often than Cat SIS.If you register with your dealer, partsSIS is free.
To continue on from what@OzDozerhas posted above there are two Parts Manuals for the 20Z prefix of 953 track loader. The first covers machines with S/N up to 266.For 20Z01980 you would need Cat Publication reference SEBP1438 that covers 20Z machines with Serial Numbers from 00267-Up. The one to which Tyler posted the link would work, although it might have a lot of old Part Number in it what with the pulbication date . Alternatively here's a brand-new genuine OEM one oneBayin CD format for $89.
If I buy the one that was printed in 1988 and covers my machine will the part numbers still be current or should I buy a newer manual with update parts number?
Once you have a number out of the book, the parts interpreter will be able to update it to any newer replacement numbers or modified parts.
