Sorry I forgot to mention its a 1996 I believe. Possible series 6? But I am not sure. IT is the more square type machine before they went rounded if that helps.....LOL
Look at the swivel boot for dammage. then take off the cover where grease is added and see if you can draw water off the top. Likely it will be mixed and you will need to change the grease too.Later Bob
Seen a few that size / bigger where the swing motor comes loose and water gets in under it or even thru the bolt holes. But most likely as bob said.
Hi,Thank you for the replies.Bob, can you describe the swivel boot location for me please. I am not familiar with this part. Also is it difficult to replace /inspect.Thank you
I'm pretty sure there are 2 seals, the visible one is seen from underneath the machine where the swivel joint is. If you crawl underneath the track frame and look up (where you imagine the swing drive is from underneath) if there is any rubber visible around the upper outer edge of the cavity this is the one you can see.To check grease you can find an access cover between the cab and bottom of the left boom cylinder, you can check the water and grease level (spec is 0 water and min depth of 20mm grease)If you find excess of water or want to drain and clean out what you can for any reason, you will find another oval cover underneath (it will be a bigger version of the one between cab and boom cyl) to access it you have to crawl underneath and it will be in the same recess underneath near the swivel joint. If you do drain and clean out the grease the spec is 5.5L of lithium based NLGI-2Did you ask the previous owner if it was ever worked in deep water? It wouldn't hurt to make sure the swing box is tight and all bolts are mounting it.Frozen water might not have taken seal out, if you have excess clearance in the turn table it can bugger them up as well.

Around that piece of metal is the rubber boot that keeps water out of the trough.Later Bob
I had something similar on my Hitachi. Fluid leaking out around the turret ring. It turned out to be bad seals in the swivel joint. It wasn't water as I first supposed, it was hydraulic oil. You could remove the inspection plate near the boom then raise other side of mach to drain the turntable area. Then replace inspection plate and operate mach for a few hours and check for new fluid in turntable.
As I recall the PC60 had a motor direct coupled to the swing pinion gear. There was sheet metal that covered up the swing motor area and any rain could run into there and just sit. There is a sheet metal tub in between the carbody and the house that holds grease and the pinion gear runs in it. It can fill up with water over time but when it does the water generally begins to leak out thru the bearing itself. You can tell because of the off color grease that piles up on the carbody below the bearing.Komatsu generally leaves the swivel area open on the larger machines so water and oil just drain out the hole in the middle of the carbody. A photo of the area under the boom and behind the boom cylinder would help my tired old brain to bring back a memory or two.
