First of i would insist that they sort it out!

I think that Scat Trak was purchased by Volvo a few years back, Maybe u could call the Volvo dealer in your area and see what engine is in it ???

How does a diesel with less than 1500 hrs need a valve job, much less lock up? Hmm, that's curious. :beatsme

I had the same thoughts but am not a wrench and went with what the shop told me it neede. Now with it locking up I am less than confident the shop knows what they are doing. Maybe it is not related but it seems very peculiar as I have had no problems with it prior to this. Thoughts?ATCOEQUIP said:How does a diesel with less than 1500 hrs need a valve job, much less lock up? Hmm, that's curious. :beatsmeClick to expand...

Sorry to hear about your troubles CANNONMAN1. :BangheadThoughts? That's really hard for us to say. May have been an oil pressure issue, may be a clogged oil pump strainer. What type of oil have you been using in the engine?

I have been using Rotella, Use it in most of my diesel stuff and haven't had any problems. My Superduty has 380,000 miles on it using nothing but Rotella. Been happy with it.

I hope you get it sorted out without a great deal of expense to your wallet.

They are in Chicago. They will gladly sell you a new or reman engine or any other parts you may need. I've used there technical services department several times & they are allways willing to help. They will also be able to tell you who your local certified dealer dealer is. Good luck...hope you get your mess straightened out.

since perkins is now cat you could go there to. i just pulled a 4.4 perkins out of a telehandler that had spun the thrust bearing with 1800 hours on it.

I am thinking that is either a newer or larger Perkins engine than mine. Mine is a 1004.4 I believe. It is 86 HP and that is about what my Telehandler is so maybe they are about the same size. If you don't mind what did it cost to repair your engine. Just trying to get an idea what I may be looking at for costs.in_the_field said:since perkins is now cat you could go there to. i just pulled a 4.4 perkins out of a telehandler that had spun the thrust bearing with 1800 hours on it.Click to expand...

well since it was a rental machine they ordered a complete engine and i believe it was around the $11,000 mark....

Ask the operator what happened when it happenedDid it make a lot of noise , go bang ? Did slow down then quit ? Was it shut down then not turn over ?I have not happen to see one need a valve job with so few hrs.Can You turn engine over by wrench or belts in either direction ? It could have become hydrostaticly locked . Check oil and coolant for immigration- one to the otherWith only Three hrs. I would also be thinking about pulling valve covers - it may have lost a valve keeper- which would mean they would be doing some spending

Do you mean the camshaft bush? There aren't any thrust bearings in a 4.4, just endfloat collars on the crankshaft, and the locking collar on the camshaft. The phosphor bronze bush supporting the front of the camshaft spinning inside the block is a known issue, but usually when there's a right-side power take off with a heavy loading.

Perkins was never a real good engine, I'd rip it out and stuf a 3.9 Cummins in it and end all the problems. I work on Cat stuff and Cummins has it all over cat in the small engine department.
