I agree with WG, it sure would be good to be able to send PM's Terry. I don't go with the idea that PM's take away from the sharing on the board. Some things don't need to be shared, that's why PM's are allowed on most all boards. Been getting that error for two years now. D.
I agree with Wally and Dave on this one. It would be nice to be able to send a PM on occasion.
It is useful medium when two vastly different opinions happen and aggressive text starts flowing too.
I agree too. It would be useful sometimes to use that feature.
We tried it in the past - you need to set up criteria. Let us take a look and if we need policy advice - we will repost questions here. I will let you know the issues as soon as I know. Terry O.
Terry, Did anything ever come of this? D.
I don't agree. The purpose of the forum is to share knowledge (and for me to learn something). I don't want to see a new thread coming up and then when things get exciting this stops because the experts start debating things between themselves by the PMs. So far this forum has been working very well. I believe there's the moderator to control any 'aggressive' text....controlling our temper is also a challenge.

I believe there's the moderator to control any 'aggressive' text....controlling our temper is also a challenge. If someone were to do that, then there is always the forum to call them out on it. The PM as I foresee it was to pass info that may not be acceptable to put on the board. E-mail addresses and phone numbers for one thing. Also info such as recommendations for a particular person or company to solve a particular problem. There has been several times I have wanted to tell someone to call a number and talk to an individual that I know does not frequent the board at all. However, I am not putting up phone numbers or email addresses for the world to get hold of. Some do, I don't. It was a question, of course, it is up to Terry to do what he thinks is best. I abide with whatever he decides. D
Sometimes people simply what to connect with one another and the thread isn't the right place to do it. Currently the members are forced to expose their email addresses or phone numbers to the web if they want to hold off topic discussions. Anyone already has the ability to take a thread offline if they choose to do so. Not supporting PMs won't change that. Supporting PMs gives our personal information a barrier from bad guys on the web. I believe there is more good to come from supporting PMs than not.
I'd like to see the PM feature, too, for the aforementioned reasons.
bump <== in favor of PMs
