Hi everyone. I'm new to this, so humor me. I recently purchased a Cat E70b excavator. So far, it has been a sweet little unit. Only problem is the air conditioning does not work. I am having it repaired, but the expansion valve had been removed, and we are having a hard time locating one. I have no manuals (and don't even know what it looks like), so I have no way of knowing what the part # is. We have tried the local Cat dealership, with no luck. (By the way, the excavator is one of the "gray" units made in Japan (s/n 7FY...)) I have also been searching the internet, with no luck in finding any information.Could someone help me out. I could use the part number, or any other information. If you own one of these units, maybe you could take a picture of the expansion valve. Any help would be appreciated, as I am roasting alive in the Alabama heat. Thanks for your time

Is the system still R12 or is it retrofitted to R134a? they use a different size valve on the two systems. The valve is normally next to the evaporator, the tubes/hoses run to the evaporator via the expansion valve and the valve is normally in the same compartment and only a few inches or foot away. Most R12 components are not available anymore.

They are converting it to R134A. I am working offshore, at the moment, so was not able to look at it myself. I did not know if it is a stand alone (in-line) valve, or if it is a block mount valve. I would think that if it is an in-line valve, you could just find a valve that is rated for the correct tonnage and has the correct size ports. I was reading some of the other forum threads and saw where someone commented that the Cat E70B and Cat 302 use similar parts. Wondered if I might go in that direction. I am trying to get the A/C working before I go back home, as I have a lot of work to do with it. Thanks for your reply.
