Hello all,We have a 440c skidder. Last Thursday when driving it to the woods we lost all steering and hydraulics. We replaced the transmission filter. Main pump seems to be turning properly, we did tear it apart and it seems to be good. We seem to be getting no oil from the transmission to the main pump. There is also metal shavings in the hydraulic oil. We are leaning toward the charge pump in transmission but looking for other options of what it could be. We are not liking the estimate of $5600 to replace the charge pump. That price is all new parts.

Did you clean the intake tube strainer ? This is in the bottom of the trans and if there are metal shavings it could be clogged. It fits on the intake tube for the trans/charge pump. The pump can be rebuilt and the gears are not that expensive I think that you can get all 4 gears for$3-500 US. The housing is more expensive if it needs to be replaced. I would check the screen and then if that does not fix it pull the charge pump and see if you can rebuild it or maybe there is a broken shaft...Apparently, at one time, Deere made a whole kit to completely upgrade and change the pump system. This kit no longer made but there is a possibility that your machine had this upgrade. Maybe others know more about this kit.
